Combining Creativity and Technology to Form Technopreneur Armies
For ASEAN Economic Community 2015
AEC or ASEAN
Economic Community is an agreement between ASEAN countries to form a single
market and production base in 2015. In short, the AEC will transform ASEAN into
an economic region with free movement of goods, services, investment, skilled
labour, and freer flow of capital. That agreement itself had emerged pros and
contras in ASEAN countries. Every country have their own worries about the impact
of AEC to their countries, Philippine for example, they worry about their
rivalry in exporting agriculture product with Thailand, which has the better
agriculture system and technology.
In Indonesia
itself, the AEC becomes to be warm issues not only in business and economics
field, but also in educational and technology field. Appeared many question
about 'is Indonesia ready for AEC in 2015?'. Many people sceptic about AEC 2015
because they think Indonesia hasn't ready for AEC, but not a few people believe
that Indonesia have big potential in AEC since Indonesia is rich for its nature
resources and Indonesia has exported agriculture and mining products to another
countries.
What we need
to remember is, when AEC opened in December 2015, the natural resources will
not matter that much because in free trade area 2015, a company in a country
could be owned 100 percent by the other countries. That means, the other
country could using Indonesian resources as much as they could legally, which
could be a great danger for our country. We should see our employment statistic
from Employment and Transmigration Ministry 2011, Indonesia has 109 million
employees, 54,2 million people from it are only graduated from Elementary
School. From that data we can conclude that we're very lacking in employment
quality and it brings out fear that in AEC 2015, the companies in Indonesia
will be dominated by employees from another countries which have better
employment quality.
If we want
to succeed in AEC 2015, we should not rely only on our natural resources. What
important the most is our human resources. With low human resources qualities,
Indonesia will be not able to stand in a very competitive economy world in
2015. So our country should create better
human resources from now. However, there's another effective way to
controlling ASEAN economy in 2015. It is by
creating technopreneur armies.
In our daily
live, we are very often hearing the word 'technopreneur'
but only a few people who really understand about the meaning of it. Technopreneur is entrepreneur in the field of
technology or someone who can use technology as the way to make better products
to gain better business prospects. Technopreneurship is something that becomes
to be popular topics around the world recently. In Indonesia, technopreneurship
had become to be hot issues between businessman and students in university. The
examples of technopreneurs who had successfully combining
business and technology are Bill Gates and Steve Jobbs. In Indonesia itself
there's Andrew Darwis, the creator of KASKUS sites that had been very popular
in our country.
Technopreneurship
have big potential in the future because technology is always developing and
spreading fast around the world. But having knowledge about technology will not
instantly make someone to become to be a technopreneur.
There is another factor that supporting technopreneurship ability. That factor
is creativity. Creativity is defined as
the tendency to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities
that may be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and
entertaining ourselves and others (Human Motivation, 3rd ed., by Robert E.
Franken). Creativity is something that everyone has since we're born, but the
traditional educational system since Elementary School until High School are lack of methodology to creating creatives, innovatives and visionary that needed a lot when
we're entering the free trade area in 2015. If we could combine creativity and
technology, then we can create an excellent technopreneurs that will become to be motor to moving
Indonesian economy.
As
Technological Institution, ITS is one of the best resources of educated
employers that expert in technology and engineering. ITS has big potential to
become a central research of technology to manage Indonesian resources.
However, become experts in engineering and technology will not instantly make
Indonesia could control ASEAN trade in the future. The knowledge about
marketing and economy will have huge effects in industrial. When we are only
focusing on research about science and technology, we will only creating
employees for them who have better ability to managing business and economy.
With engineering and technology
basics, ITS already have big potential to become to be a technopreneurs production machine. However, there are
steps that need to take to developing technopreneurship in ITS to create a
strong technopreneur armies to facing AEC in 2015, they
are:
1. Arranging
Technopreneurship seminars for Students to understanding Technopreneurship and
its importance in our future economy.
2. Creating
Technopreneurship competition between student to exercise student's ability to
become to be technopreneurs.
3. Making Technopreneurship as a university
subject to form new seeds of technopreneurship in ITS.
4. Making
place or community where technopreneurs could meet and sharing their idea. For
example, by creating Technopreneurship UKM in ITS.
Finally,
ready or not, we will face the new economic era in 2015 with AEC. It's not time
to be sceptic even apathetic about AEC, it is out time to preparing Indonesia
to go the war field in 2015 by creating strong technopreneur armies who will developing innovations
in technology to creating business prospects in the future. To make it happen,
we need a strong cooperation between students, entrepreneurs, ITS and
government to growing technopreneurship so in 2015 Indonesian technopreneurs have ready to battling in ASEAN
Economic Community 2015.
